AEA TRP3 microphone preamplifier

The TRP3 is AEA’s latest third-generation preamp design: a two-channel half-rack preamp that combines the classic features of the TRP and TRP2 with updated circuitry, improved components and more intuitive controls. The result is the cleanest and most musical circuit AEA has built to date. Specifically designed to bring out the character of ribbon microphones, the TRP3 offers an ultra-high input impedance of 68kΩ (phantom power off) and 7 to 85dB of gain. That 85 dB output is exactly what passive ribbon microphones and other low-level sources need: without sufficient clean gain, a soft signal can quickly sound too thin or too noisy, particularly with acoustic guitars, strings, remote recordings or long cable runs. With the TRP3, no source is too quiet for a ribbon microphone.

AEA TRP3 – a compact RPQ3

Designed for ribbon microphones, but equally suitable for condenser and dynamic microphones. The TRP3 delivers the same gain capacity as AEA’s RPQ3, but in a more compact half-rack format: 48V phantom power with a polarity switch, and a switchable HPF at -3dB at 115Hz or 230Hz for repeatable control of the proximity effect. Ideal for stereo pairs, quickly recallable settings, and situations where you want to keep the finest details from source to recording intact. An external universal power supply keeps hum away from the high-gain electronics and makes the TRP3 usable worldwide without any modifications. The lightweight aluminium half-rack chassis is built for travelling; to remote gigs, other studios, or on the road. Can be rack-mounted individually with optional rack ears, or two units side by side using a rack shelf.
