The AEA R92 proves that a ribbon microphone isn’t just for use at a distance. This compact passive ribbon microphone has been specially designed for close-miking applications and delivers the warm, three-dimensional sound for which AEA is renowned worldwide, without the excessive low-end response often associated with traditional ribbon microphones. Based on the same legendary Big Ribbon technology as the iconic AEA R44, the R92 combines a rich, natural sound with a surprisingly controlled proximity effect. This ensures the sound remains balanced and detailed, even when the microphone is placed close to the source.

Thanks to its compact size and integrated swivelling shock mount, it is also easy to position, even in the most challenging studio or live environments. What makes the R92 truly unique are the two distinct sound characteristics of its front and rear sides. The front offers a clear, open and detailed sound, whilst the rear delivers the classic soft ribbon sound with a natural roll-off of the highest frequencies. In effect, you get two microphones in a single housing.
