General
To reduce the cost, Heil Sound has introduced a no-frills version of their extremely popular PR 20. With the PR 20 UT you get exactly the same microphone as the PR 20, but without all the extra accessories. This means that the specs of the PR 20 and PR 20 UT itself are the same: a broad frequency range, high sound pressure level, and excellent rejection of unwanted noise. Utility (UT) means that this microphone doesn't have any filters, and is suitable for recording or reproducingvocals in both studio or live applications in a professional setting.
Construction
The PR 20 UT is specially designed for recording vocals in the studio, reproducing sound during live applications, and commercial broadcasting. This means that the PR 20 UT is a very rugged mic that can handle a beating. The special magnet structure, consisting of a large aluminium 1-1/8-inch low-mass voice coil assembly, guarantees excellent performance, while the phasing plug assembly ensures unwanted noise distortion is kept at a minimum. This means that any unwanted hum or buzz enters out of phase, so that these don't interfere with the sound in front of the cardioid diaphragm.
Other applications
A particularly handy feature of the PR 20 UT is the on and off switch, which allows you to deactivate the mic when you're not using it in a live setting, minimizing the chance of feedback. Because of its extraordinary articulation of the mid tones and its broad frequency range, this mic can also be used to record snare drums. The fact that it can handle extremely high sound pressure levels, and that it's immune to overload, only add to the PR 20 UT's amazing features!
