General
The design of the PR 35 is based on the specs of the PR 30, which means that you get a 1.5-inch diaphragm and an internal shock mount that keeps handling noise to an absolute minimum. Special attention has been paid to the phasing plug assembly, which means that any unwanted hum or buzz enters out of phase, resulting in a rejection of unwanted noise with a whopping -35 dB, so it doesn't get the chance to bother you.
Neutral response
The PR 35 picks up virtually no sound beyond its diaphragm, making it the ideal mic for vocals or instruments which produce sound directly into it. The technology Heil Sound uses also enables an extremely neutral frequency response that can also handle very high sound pressure levels without any distortion or clipping. What's especially impressive is the beautifully smooth audio response, without having to use phantom power supply.
Internal low frequency filter
The Heil PR 35 also features a low frequency filter that you can activate with a paper-clip or screwdriver. When you switch it on, it will give you filtering of -6 dB per octave at 80 Hz, while the entire frequency range from 40 Hz to 18 kHz is available in the UP position. To top it all off, this vocal mic comes as a complete package, with a SM-5 mic clip, a windshield, 3 colour rings, and a leatherette carrying case.

De "handeling noise" werd juist geprezen in sommige youtube-videos, maar mijn ervaring is ook dat hij wat meer oppikt. Niet storend, maar daarom laat ik hem liever in het statief.
Maar het ontwerp is zodanig dat je als je je hand eromheen doet bij het zingen, je stem nog steeds helder is, terwijl normaal doffer wordt. Ook is er minder proximity-effect. Voor zangers in een (harde) band helemaal fraai, voor een beatboxer en echte crooners zou ik hem weer afraden.

Wat ik heb gemerkt is dat je als zanger vaak veel volume produceert en dat niet elke microfoon je in staat stelt altijd boven de band uit te komen. Ik heb namelijk na de SM58, jarenlang gezonden door de Sennheiser e945. Dit is een kraakhelder goede live microfoon met super mooi geluid. Als je van de Shure naar de Sennheizer gaat, is dat een hele grote vooruitgang.
Maar, vanwaar de aanschaf van de Heil Sound PR35? Omdat je veel volume produceert als man, moet een microfoon dit ook kwijt kunnen, anders houdt je geen dynamiek over. Als je boven de band uit wilt komen en ze moeten jou stem harder zetten op de monitor, krijg je feedback en dat wil je niet. De Heil Sound PR35 heeft voor mij precies wat ik zocht.
De geluidseigenschappen van de Sennheizer; helder, diep, grootst. Én, zijn eigen fantastische eigenschap, veel dynamiek bij hoog volume. En juist omdat je dan nog 'stem' overhoudt, omdat je weinig moeite hoeft te doen om vol te klinken, houdt je veel ruimte over als zanger voor dynamiek.
Ik kwam op het idee om deze microfoon te kopen, omdat de zanger van Riverside, Mariusz Duda deze gebruikt. In deze ietwat hardere ProgRock band is vooral zijn stem belangrijk om in al het harde geweld erboven uit te klinken. Zoek van Riverside wat live youtube video's op om te horen hoe vol zijn stem klinkt.
Conclusie; de Heil Sound PR35 is een hele bijzondere microfoon. De eigenschappen zijn bijzonder. Dynamiek, grootst, vol, open, weinig tot geen feedback. Het enige minpuntje aan de Heil Sound ten opzichte van de Sennheizer en Shure, is dat hij wat méér bewegingsgeluid doorgeeft van je handen aan het membraan.
Voor ik het vergeet te vertellen. Nog een voordeel is dat de microfoon nauwelijks omgevingsgeluid oppikt. Een eigenschap die je met een microfoon als deze wel zou verwachten, maar je hoort nauwelijks iets van de andere instrumenten. Voor jou als zanger een voordeel, omdat je hiermee ook kunt spelen in Volume. Dit lijkt qua eigenschap dan weer meer op de Shure.
Voor zangeressen weet ik niet overigens niet hoe hij klinkt.
